Definition



Fracture which extends between the trochanters of the proximal femur
- lower limit is inferior border of lesser tuberosity
Extra capsular / well vascularized
The key to stability is the posteromedial cortex
To obtain and maintain a concentric reduction without complication

- best time for treatment
- maintain reduction of head & allow normal acetabular development
Obtain ultrasound
Graaf 2A and 2B
- Alpha angle 50 - 59o range
- many will resolve without treatment

Femur
- removal of femoral head cartilage
- resurfacing with metal
- cemented / uncemented
Acetabulum
- standard technique
Bearing surface
- metal on metal
Relatively young man (40 - 50)
