Different consequences predictable by direction of bow

 

1.  Lateral bowing

- normal variant during first year of life

- usually resolves spontaneously

 

2.  Posteromedial Bowing

- benign

- packaging defect

 

3.  Anteromedial Bowing

- fibular hemimelia

Paraxial deficiency of skeletal elements on medial aspect of lower limb

 

Epidemiology

 

Only skeletal deficiency with a documented familial occurrence
